Who We Are

NAMI Central Oregon

NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. What started as a small group of families gathered around a kitchen table in 1979 has blossomed into the nation's leading voice on mental health. Today, we are an association of hundreds of local affiliates, state organizations and volunteers who work in your community to raise awareness and provide support and education that was not previously available to those in need. NAMI relies on gifts and contributions to support our important work.

What We Do

Mission

To improve the quality of life of persons with mental disorders and their loved ones in the Central Oregon region through education, support and advocacy.

Trained members teach our evidence-based Family to Family & Peer to Peer classes. We hold a Community Education Series, "Evening with the Experts", with professional speakers on mental health issues.

Family Support

Monthly family support group meetings are facilitated by trained members to offer mutual support and resources.

Peer Support: Connection

Weekly peer support group meetings are facilitated by trained peers to offer mutual support and resources.

Advocacy

NAMI Central Oregon engages in community education and outreach aimed at reducing or eliminating negative references, characterizations and representations of mental illness which act to reinforce discrimination and stigma. Presentations include "Ending the Silence" & "In Our Own Voice.”
