The American Red Cross is hosting an online National Volunteer Opportunity Fair this Thursday, May 26th between 1-2 pm PST (4-5 Eastern) to share information on our greatest volunteer needs, particularly to prepare for this year’s wildfire season. Experts predict yet another above-normal wildfire and hurricane season nationally this year. The American Red Cross is looking for new volunteers to continue to be adequately prepared to respond to the upcoming wildfire and hurricane seasons. We have a great need for volunteers in the following roles:
- Shelter Support: Help at a shelter during a disaster by welcoming and registering residents, serving meals, setting up cots, distributing blankets and personal hygiene kits, and providing information and other assistance to people in need.
- Disaster Health Services (DHS): Use your professional skills as a licensed health care provider to deliver hands-on support, including care and education to people staying at a shelter during a large disaster. Qualified licenses include RN, LPN, LVN, EMT, Paramedic, MD, DO, PA, NP and APRN.
- Disaster Action Team (DAT): Provide hope to people who have been impacted by a home fire, flood or other local disaster. Work alongside first responders and deliver comfort and supplies to community members in their time of need.
- Duty Officer/Dispatcher: These volunteers communicate with First Responders and coordinate the efforts of the Disaster Action Team members to ensure that vital disaster services across the region are provided.
