Volunteer: MarketingHelp families find a new resource and children find an opportunity to "Soar with their strengths and mange their weaknesses." Through our tutoring program, school, and elective inspired classes, kids learn the academic and organizational skills along with opportunities to explore the arts, music, and other activities that may lead to future careers. We need help fine tuning the website, delivering brochures to schools and professionals, and posting flyers, and keeping social media engaging. We would also appreciate marketing mentoring and suggestions. Samara Learning Center is a 501(c)(3) looking for funds to make our services available to all members of the community and building our programs. Through our tutoring program, school, and summer programs, we guide children to, "Soar with your strengths; Manage your weaknesses". We are hoping to find someone with grant writing skills and some experience with grant applications to help us receive grant funds to expand and serve the most important members of our community, our children! The Samara Day School is an alternative school for kids with dyslexia, ADHD, high functioning autism, anxiety, school phobia, trauma, adopted/foster care, etc. They are great kids that may need a little extra help academically, with executive functioning, and building their successful attributes (self-awareness, perseverance, proactivity,...Frostig, 1999). Academics are absolutely important, but no kid should be working on what they are not good at all day long. Therefore, we believe in supporting their academic progression, while also providing opportunities for kids to find things they are good at and enjoy. We believe in inclusion, but there is also no panacea. Our goal is to help kids build their skills and successfully transition them back to a general education setting. This program serves a very small part of our population, but they are the ones that are often bullied, have low self-esteem, traumatized, more likely to drop out, and more likely to be on school to penitentiary pipeline. They also come from families that have to make decisions about sacrificing money and time to help their children find their own unique pathways to success. We do have the State’s official Alternative School status, which allows us to contract with districts to publicly fund a child to attend or school, such as through the IEP (Individual Education Program) from the IDEA (Individual with Disabilities Education Act). We made Samara a nonprofit because we want opportunities to be available to all, regardless of the socioeconomic status they come from. Our MAPLE tutoring program focuses on small group tutoring helping kids to get their homework done, while we also help their needed academic, executive functioning skills, and building their Success Attributes. This program reaches out to a greater percent of our population and assists in keeping kids in their current educational settings and supports their family's dynamics, letting mom, dad, guardian be their parent, instead of having to manage homework too. Most of these students also have dyslexia, ADHD, high functioning autism, anxiety, school phobia, trauma, adopted/foster care, etc. Our main summer programs is our academic based Achievement Camp that also includes arts, crafts, and field trips on Fridays. Our goal is to help prevent summer slide, review, and progress academically while working on executing functioning, Success Attributes, and still having Fun! Most of our summer students also have dyslexia, ADHD, high functioning autism, anxiety, school phobia, trauma, adopted/foster care, etc. The kids sometimes come in a little grumpy knowing they have to do some academics during the summer, but between the welcoming approach acknowledgment and ability to work with kids with differences, and including the fun activities, the leave each day with a smile.
