Volunteer: March 16, 2024, 3rd Saturday Book Sale- Friends of the Crook County Library

Come join Friends of the Crook County Library for a fun book sale at the Crook County Library in Prineville Oregon.  Volunteers are needed on Saturday March 16 at 8:30 AM to set up the sale; 10:00 AM to staff the sale: and 1:10 PM to pack up unsold books. You can help with one or more of these tasks, ranging from 2 to 4 hours in duration.  The sale starts at 10:00 AM and runs until 1:00 PM.  

Parental consent is needed for volunteers under age 18.

Volunteer: Board of Directors- Friends of the Crook County Library

Members of Friends of the Crook County Library are eligible to join our board of directors. The volunteer board of directors for Friends manages the business and finances of Friends, plans and coordinates book sales, oversees the operation of Chapters and Friends Bookstores in the library, and leads the sorting and storage of book donations.

If you are interested in joining the board, you may attend a board meeting to learn more about the board. You’ll be provided with an information packet that provides background on Friends and the responsibilities of board members. Meetings are currently held on the third Wednesday of the month from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm in the Broughton Room in the Crook County Library in Prineville, Oregon. This meeting time can be changed if board members’ schedules prohibit meeting in the early afternoon.

If you are looking for a way to meet new people and share your love of books with others while supporting the beautiful Crook County Library, located in Prineville, Oregon, Friends is for you! Friends has numerous opportunities to volunteer:  Chapters Bookstore in the Crook County Library, monthly book sales, and joining the Board of Directors to name a few. Other opportunities include general book sorting, restocking Friends Bookstore, helping with membership mailings, and preparing graphics and other materials for Friends purposes.

Helping with book sales is a fun way you can get involved. Sales are generally held on the third Saturday of each month, with larger sales twice a year. Sales run from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, with the larger sales starting at 9:00 am. Potential volunteers from our volunteer list are notified of opportunities prior to the sales. Volunteers may sign up for specific tasks, such as transporting books, organizing books on tables, staffing the sales, and packing up unsold books. Don’t worry if you are not able to lift boxes, you can still help with unpacking/packing books and staffing the sales. Volunteers may be under the age of 18 with parental consent.

Volunteers staff the bookstore, sort incoming book donations, and restock shelves. The bookstore is currently open Tuesday through Saturday for approximately three hours per day. Volunteers may work one or more shifts a week. Volunteers should be over the age of 18. Some standing and lifting of books is involved.
