Opportunities From: Connect Central Oregon

Volunteer: Jason's R&R Family Respite Night Childcare Support

Central Oregon Disability Support Network (CODSN) is a non-profit offering support to families navigating disability in eight counties throughout Oregon. We offer a variety of services for our families, and we love what we do!

One of our favorite services is our Jason's Run & Recharge Family Respite Night: a relaxing night of self-care for caregivers to recharge their batteries! Self-care is vital for the wellbeing of all caregivers, and it can be difficult for caregivers of children with disabilities to access. This program provides unpaid caregivers an opportunity to receive 3 free hours of childcare once every three months. This event is on select Wednesdays from 5-8pm. Come play with kids for 3 hours while their caregivers have a night out! This would be a phenomenal opportunity for youth and families to help out together!

You do not need to commit to each respite night to help!

Skills Strengthened Through This Opportunity:

Communication and active listening skills with people of all agesIdentifying and implementing accommodation strategiesExperience promoting equity and inclusionA deeper understanding that everyone has the ability to learn, think, and understand, and that everyone deserves to be treated with respect. Flexibility and creative thinkingSelf-management skillsQuick decision making

Tasks that support skill-building:

Greet each child and their family, and help them feel welcome.Foster an environment where children and their families feel safe and supported.Encourage children to connect with one another and support their social-emotional development.Actively engage in activities and provide any accommodations and/or support needed for all children to participate.

This program is supported by the Jason Opdyke Memorial Fund.

Volunteer: Barn/Equine Crew

We can always use help with chores such as mucking, cleaning and organizing tack, weed-management, feeding, watering, grooming, and handling horses. Many of our crew members volunteer to work for a few hours, 1 day a week, while others spend several days a week cleaning paddocks and helping out as needed.

We respectively ask that ALL visitors, including prospective new volunteer crew members,  request an appointment in advance of their expected visit.  Due to the unpredictable nature of our work, coupled with an all volunteer crew who have jobs outside of their work here, we do not have set hours of operation. Please be patient with us and we will return your call/email as soon as possible.

Volunteer: Bottles and Cans Program

BrightSide Animal Center relies on a crucial bottle and can redemption program as part of our mission to save and care for animals in need. Through generous donations of refundable bottles, cans, and plastics, we are able to fund essential services for our high-save animal shelter.

In 2016 alone, we sorted over 1.5 million items, thanks to our dedicated volunteers. But we need your help to keep the momentum going! Just 1 hour of your time each week can make a significant impact.

This is a great activity for individuals, families, and groups. Sorting is simple, and you’ll be part of a supportive, friendly team.
