CIT: SummerKids Counselor in Training Opportunities 2018!

The Counselor In Training Program for SummerKids gives teens going into 9th grade or above an opportunity to learn and practice job skills in an encouraging environment and serve as a role model to younger kids, all while having fun at camp!   This experience will provide an authentic opportunity for teens to practice independence, leadership, being proactive, and fostering a growth mindset for themselves and the kids around them!  CITs are an invaluable part of creating a positive, youth centered camp environment.  We hope you’ll join us!

This CIT program includes a mandatory 2-day training and at least 10 full days of service to SummerKids.  Training will include CIT expectations at SummerKids, as well as general job skills training, effective strategies for engaging and inspiring youth, and a practical opportunity for CITs to practice their skills and to receive feedback from the CIT Leader.  CITs are expected to sign up for at least 5 full days throughout the summer to apply their skills and help younger kids make the most out of their camp experience.

Mandatory 2 day Training: dates tbd

Service Days: At least 5 days required, M - F, 8:45 am - 4:15 pm, with half an hour lunch (not provided), July and August 

Expectation:  As the CIT program is also a job training program, CITs are expected to commit to the days that they sign up for.  In the event of sickness or other unforeseen circumstances, CITs must notify the CIT Leader.  If a CIT would like to change their scheduled days, they can submit a schedule change request for approval by the Assistant Camp Director.

Other Opportunities: CITs aged 16 and older have the opportunity to apply for a paid position with our Morning and/or Afternoon Extended Care program.  This opportunity allows CITs to take on more leadership in designing and running activities.  Participation in the CIT program does NOT guarantee a position with the program.
