NAMI Central Oregon is a peer-based, grassroots organization, and volunteers play a vital role. Volunteers are peers who are able to manage their mental health conditions or loved ones and family members of those with mental health conditions, be comfortable speaking about their own experiences with mental health conditions, complete training, and follow the structure of NAMI programs.

Our Prineville Peer Support Group Co-Facilitator will help lead the group twice a month. They will be part of the NAMI Central Oregon community, using shared experiences to support & advocate for individuals and families facing mental health challenges. All training is provided! 

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Bend needs YOU to help make our Throwback Prom, The Great Promsby, a night to remember!

This dazzling fundraiser on Saturday, April 18, 2026, will transport guests to the roaring 20s for a glamorous evening of music, dancing, and celebration, all while supporting local youth.

We’re looking for volunteers (21+) to help bring the magic to life. Whether you love:
  - Welcoming and checking in guests
  - Keeping the energy high and activities running smoothly
  - Working behind the scenes to make it all sparkle

There's a role for everyone!

Volunteer shifts available in 2.5-hour intervals:
1)  6pm to 8:30pm
2)  7:30pm to 10pm

Do you love books? Are you interested in learning about the Deschutes Public Library collection and how books get processed? Are you looking forward to experiencing the new Central Library at Stevens Ranch? This may be the volunteer position for you!

The Library needs assistance moving materials from being checked out to back on the shelves. Additional to this role is shelf reading, verifying the order of books on our shelves, and maintaining organization within our collection.

You will learn about the book collection at the Deschutes Public Library as well as ensure customers have access to well organized materials.

Must be 12 or older to qualify for this volunteer position. Hours are flexible, Monday - Saturday. We request that you commit two regular hours per week for a minimum of 6 months for this role.

Volunteer positions will not officially start until the new library is open, which is set for late-Spring.

Do you love your library and want to share it with everyone? Are you interested in learning more about the new Central Library at Stevens Ranch and sharing that information through tours? Then this might be the volunteer opportunity for you! 

The Docent Volunteer position is a vital ambassador, providing customers with an engaging, and informative library experience. Docents will assist with re-opening communication and educational support in the library. Docents will lead tours and offers details about the new Central Library at Stevens Ranch. This volunteer opportunity has a duration of 6-8 months beginning Spring 2026.

Volunteer Roles & Responsibilities: To support the library staff by providing customers with a friendly welcome to the new library. Supply information and lead building tours with the goal of creating an enriching library experience. Docents will offer detailed insights into our new Central Library at Stevens Ranch.

Volunteer Qualifications and Required Skills: Volunteer needs to possess the skills and physical ability to perform assigned tasks.

Calling all book lovers! If you are looking for a way to meet new people and share your love of books with others while supporting the beautiful Crook County Library, located in Prineville, Oregon, Friends is for you! Friends has numerous opportunities to volunteer:  Chapters Bookstore in the Crook County Library, monthly book sales, and joining the Board of Directors to name a few. Other opportunities include general book sorting, restocking Friends Bookstore, helping with membership mailings, and preparing graphics and other materials for Friends purposes.

Helping with book sales is a fun way you can get involved. Sales are generally held on the third Saturday of each month, with larger sales twice a year. Sales run from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, with the larger sales starting at 9:00 am. Potential volunteers from our volunteer list are notified of opportunities prior to the sales. Volunteers may sign up for specific tasks, such as transporting books, organizing books on tables, staffing the sales, and packing up unsold books. Don’t worry if you are not able to lift boxes, you can still help with unpacking/packing books and staffing the sales. Volunteers may be under the age of 18 with parental consent. Volunteers receive a free bag of books!

If you are a fan of children’s books, consider volunteering in Chapters bookstore, operated by Friends of the Crook County Library. This cozy bookstore, located inside Crook County library in Prineville, Oregon, has an impressive collection of children’s books. Proceeds from sales of books in Chapters support Crook County Library programs. 

Volunteers staff the bookstore, sort incoming book donations, and restock shelves. The bookstore is currently open Monday through Friday for approximately three hours per day. Volunteers may work one or more shifts a week. Volunteers should be over the age of 18. Some standing and lifting of books is involved.

The Stepping Stone Shelter in Bend is a facility operated by NeighborImpact to provide support and shelter for unhoused individuals and families. The shelter is located at 2346 NE Division Street, Bend, OR 977031 . It has 28 units and a staff office, and it offers various services to its residents, including case management, laundry facilities, and access to nearby grocery stores.

PWR! Moves is a specialized group classes designed for people with Parkinson’s. This program focuses on increasing your heart rate while including amplitude training (big and fast movements), gait training, and balance and coordination activities. Volunteer assistants help set up and break down equipment, hold equipment for participants, and help with station transitions.

Your role as a volunteer will be to help set up, clean up, and assist participants with exercises. 

We use hay bags for the horses to extend their meal time and know exactly how much they are eating. We fill hay bags daily for the horses meals.

We teach kids how to "Soar with your strengths. Manage your weaknesses." We believe kids should work on skills needed to become independent, successful adults, but this includes NOT working on what they aren't good at all day long. Struggling kids deserve opportunities for fun and future career explorations too.

We are one of the few organizations in OR that specializes in working with kids who are neurodivergent (ADHD, Autism, dyslexia, etc.), and we do this through:

1.) OR Department of Education-approved Alternative School to help students build their success skills to transition back to their general education school. Collaboration with the districts is important. 

2.) Tutoring & Homeschool Support/Classes

3.) Enrichment Camps/Classes (mostly through Bend Parks and Rec)

Our programs provide an array of services, expand our community outreach, and diversify our income. 

Who Are We Looking For in a Board Member?

We are looking for those wanting to help families find HOPE. As a successful neurodivergent person herself (ADHD, dyslexia), Heather, Samara's Executive Director, believes that our motto "Soar with your strengths" should be implemented in the business structure too, so we are looking for people who strengthen the organization with their diverse skills and perspectives. Along with the questions at the beginning of the page, we could use someone with a legal background, more people with financial/business management experience,  and private/charter/homeschool experience. Like many nonprofits, we've had some difficulties building our board back from the Pandemic challenges, but Samara perseveres and is growing. We are ready to strengthen our foundations, assess program viability, and dream for the future. 

Time commitment: Board meetings 4 times a year, some email communication, attending committee meetings when needed, and participating in fundraising events.

Board Member Expectations:

Nonprofits’ Board of Directors is the governing body, overseeing vision, mission, and internal operations of the organization. Board members are elected for two-year terms. 

1) Board members hold overall fiscal and managerial oversight responsibility for the Nonprofit. 

2) They are charged with the supervision and oversight of the Nonprofits’ mission. 

3) They are responsible for making decisions, delegating work, and assuring decisions are carried out in the manner intended.

In need of volunteers for Building Facilities Maintenance in Bend, Sisters, Redmond and Warm Springs

The Central Oregon Partnerships for Youth (COPY) program provides one-to-one community-based mentoring for kids that have an incarcerated parent. Volunteers receive initial classroom training, background checks, and individualized coaching to work with the youth they are matched up with. These youth are not involved in the criminal justice system—they are youth that have been impacted by the choices of their adult caregiver.

Volunteers commit to spending a couple of hours each week with their youth. Often they are engaged in community outings, art projects, or youth enrichment with business and civic partners. This could be exploring the High Desert Museum, participating in park and rec programs, jumping at trampoline parks, climbing in rock gyms, riding bikes, swimming, and much more.

COPY youth are between 5 and 15 years old and live in Deschutes County. Volunteers work with their youth for 1 year- building a relationship and connection. Often, mentors continue past that initial year. They can connect after school, after work, or during weekends. There is a high degree of flexibly in scheduling that time.

Community Solutions of Central Oregon is a nonprofit organization that has provided community dispute resolution services in Central Oregon for more than 28 years. We help people have difficult conversations by providing a wide range of mediation, facilitation, and education programs recognized for their affordable, high-quality, and positive impact.

Mediation supports peaceful conflict resolution and builds bridges across differences. Participants of our Basic Mediation Training (BMT) learn how to create a safe and respectful space, actively listen, identify underlying needs, and empower others to arrive at their own agreements. Our BMT course meets all standards required for Oregon-based community dispute resolution centers (CDRCs).

Our training is a three-part hybrid program (online and in person):

Part 1: Web-based with course content provided via a Student Portal on our website. This part has been developed for self-paced study. During this portion you will also observe several live mediations.

Part 2: An in-person practicum which includes classroom lectures, group discussions, and role play scenarios.

Part 3: Mentorship that includes two observations of mediations, two co-mediations with an experienced mediator, and two coached mediations with an experienced mediator.

When:
Part 1: Mandatory Completion of online material as soon as possible but with a deadline of February 15, 2026 for completing online material and at least two observations of live cases with our senior mediators. The online material also requires responses to the modules that are reviewed by the mediation training team.

Part 2: Practicum, March 13th-15th, 2026, 8am-5pm
The Rosie Bareis Center, NW Bend Oregon

Part 3: Scheduled individually, usually takes another eight hours for the four live cases with de-briefing and coaching.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax help to people with low-to-moderate income, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, those who have limited English proficiency, and others who need assistance in preparing their tax returns.  

VITA Interpreters provide free language interpretation services to customers who are not fluent in English as they engage with certified VITA tax preparers who are not fluent in Spanish. Basic tax knowledge is helpful, but tax law certification is not required for this position.

A typical volunteer schedule would be 3-4 hours on a weekday evening or a weekend afternoon during February, March, or April.

VITA Greeters create a welcoming atmosphere for taxpayers and other volunteers. They greet taxpayers, assess the type of assistance they need, and make sure they have the documents necessary to complete their tax returns. Tax law certification is not necessary for this role.

No previous tax preparation experience is required. Volunteers come from all walks of life: working professionals, retirees, college and high school students, and people who just want to help in their communities!

Volunteers can expect to receive approximately 30 hours of training, most of which can be completed online. A typical volunteer schedule would be 3-4 hours on a weekday evening or a weekend afternoon during February, March, or April.

Volunteers have the opportunity to participate in the activities and are encouraged to socialize with participants and answer questions/ guide folks to the right place, as needed.

Attend Adventure Group outings between May-October. Go hiking, biking, kayaking, etc with participants who have a neurologic condition. Help with equipment loading and unloading. We are seeking active individuals with a love for the outdoors. Experience working with the neurologic population is preferred, but not required. Commitment: 1 time per week from 9am-12pm (3 times per month, May-October). Must be able to commit to at least half of the outings.

COVO is seeking volunteers to come to Family Kitchen for one hour, once a week - Tuesdays or Thursdays from 8am-9am. We are seeking a maximum of 2 volunteers per shift.

During this hour, a volunteer will make sandwiches (if needed), and set up lunch bags that COVO distributes to camps in Central Oregon.

The Museum has many volunteer opportunities for you! Among our current selections are:

Admissions Greeter: Greet Museum visitors and start them on their journey. Guide them to the daily happenings and new exhibits.

Visitor Services: Help the Admissions Team welcome visitors to the Museum and ensure a positive, memorable visit. Answer any questions visitors have during their visit.

Education:  Assist in providing positive experiences for students, educators and chaperones to the High Desert Museum. Answer questions about content, educational materials, field trip logistics, and ensure schools are excited to return and feel welcomed into the Museum.

Nature Team:  Interpret the High Desert’s natural history, including the region’s plants, fungi, climate, geological features, ecosystems and human interactions within those ecosystems. Assist with various special events including the monthly Natural History Pub, exhibit openings, educational programs, weed pulling on the grounds and other initiatives.

Living History Docent: Engage visitors with activities that supplement exhibits relating to the lives of historical 19th and early 20th century people in the High Desert.

Wildlife Interpreter: Engage with visitor and deliver multiple scheduled wildlife talks throughout the day, from the High Desert Hooves talk to the Otter Encounter.

Wildlife Behind the Scenes: Assist Wildlife keepers with animal care and husbandry in specific areas including Desertarium and Birds of Prey.

Wildlife Gallery Attendant: Do you have a specialized skill or interest and wish to contribute to the Wildlife Department in unique ways? This may be the spot for you!

High Desert Ranger Station: Volunteers open and close the building, raise the flag when open, make sure displays are clean and available to guests, prepare and deliver information about the historic building, the role of the US Forest Service, and provide information about forest management and ecosystems in the current era.

Photography Team: Capture in still photography and video all of the fun and beauty found at the Museum. Photographers are sent to document special events and daily programs.

Silver Sage Trading Display: Silver Sage Trading Display Volunteers support store staff and visitor experiences by refilling the existing merchandise displays, replacing items moved by visitors, performing general cleaning tasks, and making note of any items the store is running low on. This opportunity would be a great fit for someone who is detail-oriented and enjoys interacting with visitors. This position requires frequent trips up and down stairs, as well as carrying items around the store. Display volunteers must be flexible and creative – displays in Silver Sage aren’t static! Silver Sage Trading Inventory:  Silver Sage Trading Inventory Volunteers have the opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at store operations and work closely with store staff to process new and incoming merchandise. Inventory Volunteers work closely with the Store Lead and other staff to open new boxes (it’s like opening a new present every day!), accurately price and label the items, and keep the stockroom organized. This opportunity would be a good fit for someone who is detail-oriented and enjoys methodical work.

Central Services Support: The Central Services Support Volunteers support our facilities staff to ensure the museum stays clean and presentable for visitors. This opportunity would be great for someone who enjoys physical labor and wants to volunteer while the visitors are away.

Trail Docent: The Trail Docent is responsible for making rounds inside the Museum and the outside trails while engaging visitors, answering questions, and notifying Museum staff of any safety and security concerns.

Changing Exhibits: Changing Exhibits Volunteers are responsible for guiding activities that supplement the interpretive opportunities available in our changing exhibits at the High Desert Museum. The primary function is to facilitate hands-on experiences, creating access for audiences, especially children, who might otherwise lack the prior knowledge necessary to engage fully with the passive interpretive elements of some of these exhibits. What is Meals on Wheels? Meals on Wheels is a nationwide network of community-based, non-profit programs dedicated to providing older adults who are 60 years old or older and either home-bound or have difficulty shopping/cooking a nutritious meal, a friendly visit and a quick safety check.

What will I be doing when I volunteer? The volunteer job is delivering meals and friendly greetings to home-bound older adults. Most typically, this involves picking up meals at a central location and delivering them along a predetermined route directly to the homes of several older adults in the area. Most deliveries are done between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Once you are done, you return the delivery packaging items, report to the site coordinator and get back on your way.

SHIBA Counselors provide confidential and objective health insurance counseling to people with Medicare in person and by phone. Counselors provide individual health insurance information, counseling, and assistance according to the Senior Health Insurance Benefits Assistance (SHIBA) guidelines. Prospective volunteers are caring and respectful with good interpersonal skills, are able to handle complex information, have computer proficiency in email and the internet, have organizational skills, reliable transportation, and no conflict of interest. Counselors are especially needed in Madras, Redmond, La Pine and Prineville. We guide you through the training process.

Individuals are needed who are interested in supporting the behavioral and mental health of residents in Central Oregon by serving on New Priorities Family Services’ Board of Directors. The board currently meets monthly throughout the year, but some committees formed by the Board may meet more often. We are looking for caring community & business members who have the knowledge or willingness to work on fundraising, media, budgets, and accounting. Individuals who have resources in the community that might be helpful in obtaining funds, supplies, and equipment for the outpatient treatment office or have experience working as a part of a healthy and functioning board are highly desired.

New Priorities Family Services is a substance and discrimination-free workplace. Background checks and substance use screenings must be completed for anyone volunteering to serve on the board or work with the program.

This volunteer assists the Meals on Wheels coordinator with getting the Meals on Wheels deliveries ready M-F. The volunteer will count meals, beverages and fruit needed for each delivery to assure the drivers have what they need for delivery. Other duties may include helping drivers carry bags to their cars and wiping down tables and bags.

The Laundry Project, organized by St. Vincent de Paul Redmond, Oregon, is dedicated to providing free laundry services to community members. This project takes place on the 10th and 20th of each month from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Express Eco Laundromat, located at 1604 S Hwy 97 #1, Redmond, OR 97756. During this time, we cover the cost of washers, dryers, soap, and dryer sheets, ensuring that everyone has access to clean laundry.In addition to laundry services, we also provide a hot meal, generously prepared and served by our dedicated volunteers. The Saving Grace Hospital Response Team (HRT) consists of staff and volunteers who respond to St. Charles Medical Center (in Bend or Redmond) for advocacy with sexual assault and intimate partner violence victims. HRT Advocates provide emotional support, information and referrals to survivors. An HRT Advocate must be able to respond to calls during evening and weekend shifts. ● All Sidewalkers must have participated in the Healing Reins Sidewalker Training.

● Able to physically react quickly and calmly to maximize safety of the participant and perform an emergency dismount of a participant.
● Able to walk with intermittent jogging for an hour at a time over uneven surfaces.
● Able to frequently stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 25 pounds.

Sidewalker Responsibilities:
● Assist participant with grooming the horse, as directed by the Instructor.
● Stay next to the participant both on and off the horse to maximize safety and provide stability
assistance and prompts as needed.
● Assist instructor with mounts and dismounts.
● Aid participant with lesson activities as directed by the instructor.
● Communicate with the Instructor and Horse Leader regarding the needs of the participant.
● Communicate with the participant regarding their needs and providing prompting or reminders
as needed.
● Work as a team with staff and other volunteers.
● Follow directions from the Instructors.
● Ensure compliance with all Healing Reins policies.

No horse experience necessary! We are in great need of people who want to get outside and work with our riders who have various needs - physical, behavioral, cognitive and mental health. The Central Oregon Volunteer Connect (COVC) Program Manager administers CCO's relationships with nonprofit and public organizations that engage volunteers through postings on our volunteer-connecting platform. The COVC Program Manager also builds program engagement through service days, volunteering campaigns, and volunteer fairs.

We are seeking committed, self-motivated individuals to join our board of directors. We ask that board members be willing to serve for a minimum of three years. Our board members help provide overall direction for the organization, prioritize our services and make policy decisions about significant changes to our direction and focus. You are asked to utilize your social and professional networks to make people aware of LCA's work and how they can get involved to support our mission through volunteering, partnering and/or donating.  Finally, board members keep an eye on our finances and make sure we have the resources we need to carry out our plans and reach our service goals all within the laws that govern our work.

Our board currently meets a minimum of four times a year. Board members are asked to support one of our committees in between board meetings. Our committees include: Governance, Finance, Fundraising, Events and Advocacy.

It’s amazingly simple. You just organize a small group of neighbors to be Food Donors. Each donor gets a reusable green bag to store food in. Every two months you pick up their full bag, leave an empty one for next time, and bring all the bags to a drop-off point, where volunteers receive and sort it.

Our Food Donors commit to filling the green bag we supply to be collected by a Neighborhood Coordinator every other month (second Saturday of every even month).
