Are you a creative person who likes to tinker and make things? Do you have skills or knowledge in sewing, 3D printing, laser cutting, digital die cutting (Cricut or similar), soldering, and/or digital creation and want to help guide others to use these same tools? This might be the role for you!       

Volunteer Roles & Responsibilities: Volunteers support staff in charge of the MakerSpace with hands on teaching and assisting customers using MakerSpace equipment. 
   -Greet MakerSpace users and help them get oriented to the space. 
   -Support users working on personal, self-guided projects. 
   -Inform users on safety rules and equipment use.  
 
Volunteer Qualifications and Required Skills: MakerSpace Support Volunteers need to possess the skills and abilities to perform assigned tasks. Skills include basic understanding and a potential for growth in the use of one or more MakerSpace tools and the following: 
  -Intermediate technology skills–comfortable with computers for internet browsing and basic instrument troubleshooting. 
   -Comfortable with asking questions and learning throughout the creative process.  
   -Ability to work with and guide customers of all ages. 
   -Patience, flexibility, reliability, compassion, encouragement; enjoy celebrating the success of others. 
   -MakerSpace volunteers need to have an active, up-to-date library card within Jefferson, Crook, or Deschutes, that has been signed to acknowledge and agree to Deschutes Public Library rules and policies.  

While not required to have prior experience with MakerSpace equipment to volunteer, those who possess skills or knowledge in sewing, 3D printing, laser cutting, digital die cutting (Cricut or similar), soldering, and/or digital creation are encouraged to apply. 

Volunteers should be 14 years old or older.

Do you love books? Are you interested in learning about the Deschutes Public Library collection and how books get processed? Are you looking forward to experiencing the new Redmond Library? This may be the volunteer position for you!    

The library needs assistance moving materials from being checked out to back on the shelves. Additional to this role is shelf reading, verifying the order of books on our shelves, and maintaining organization within our collection.

You will learn about the book collection at the Deschutes Public Library as well as ensure customers have access to well organized materials. Must be 12 or older to qualify for this volunteer position. Hours are flexible, Monday - Saturday. We request that you commit two regular hours per week for a minimum of 6 months for this role.
