DarkSky Oregon

Established in 2019 in Oregon.

Our mission is to preserve Oregon's magnificent dark skies and to diminish light pollution for the health, safety, and well-being of all life.

Central Oregon is home to some of the most breathtaking dark skies, a unique beauty that is unfortunately fading due to light pollution.

We are committed to spreading the word about the benefits of intelligent and safe outdoor lighting and its protection for people and the wild environment. Advantages include:

• reducing glare
• light trespass
• energy waste
• skyglow from nearby cities

We educate about improvements in outdoor lighting via outreach programs, star parties, and social media. We work at the individual, neighborhood, city, county, and state levels. Our Good Light Neighbor program recognizes residents, businesses, and organizations in Oregon that employ responsible lighting on their property – human-, wildlife-, and night sky-friendly.

We have an expanding program to measure light pollution (skyglow) in Central Oregon and the state.

Our board, filled with passionate individuals, is eager to hear your unique insights and ideas. Your contribution could be the key to achieving our mission.
