MountainStar Family Relief Nursery

MountainStar Family Relief Nursery’s mission is to prevent child abuse and neglect through community support and therapeutic services that help vulnerable children and families succeed. We envision communities that support each parent's efforts to nurture their children's emotional, physical, and intellectual development in a safe environment. MountainStar’s early childhood services meet the highest quality standards including accreditation through the National Association for the Education of Young Children and a 5-star rating from the Quality Rating Improvement System in Oregon.

MountainStar was formed in 2001 in response to the community need for comprehensive services for distressed families with very young children. Our Relief Nursery services include the Therapeutic Early Childhood Program (TECP) with three age specific therapeutic classrooms, home visiting and the Safety Net Program, which provides crisis intervention, resource referral and ongoing services to high risk families who are not enrolled or who are waiting for openings in the TECP.

To further meet the needs of client families in crisis, over the years we have added regular child assessments, transportation services, emergency food boxes through partner agencies, services for limited English-speaking families, and a variety of mental health services. In 2013, MountainStar welcomed the Relief Nursery in Madras. We expanded services to Prineville in 2015. Safety Net services began in La Pine in summer 2016. Our Redmond site opened in 2020.

MountainStar also expanded to provide Preschool Promise programs for 3-5 year-olds in Bend, Madras, and Prineville in the fall of 2020. Preschool Promise classes will be opening in Redmond and La Pine in the fall of 2022.
