Who We Are
We believe that we can make the world a better place one child at a time:
- This is a volunteer dependent program going into its seventh year.
- Tutors work one-on-one with the same student for 1 hour each week from October through May.
- Substitutes are an important part of the program, covering for needed absences of tutors.
- Student participants need extra help in math, reading or both.
- School staff believe the relationship between the tutor and students is the key to the progress the students achieve.
- Juniper Elementary supports the program by providing space, materials and on site staff.
What We Do
- Tutors provide one-on-one academic support in a relaxed setting for 3rd grade students who are referred by their teachers for extra help. Tutoring is on Tuesdays from 3-4 pm.
- Focus is on reading and math in a fun and relaxed setting.
- Training and support is provided for tutors and substitutes. School staff provide training and a staff person is on site during tutoring .
- Substitutes are also needed to cover for tutor absences. They are utilized on a call-when-needed basis.
- Bend La Pine School District background check is required for all volunteers.
- Volunteers are recruited in August thru December, depending on need. However openings may occasionally occur at any time during the school year.
Youth volunteers are welcomed. Volunteers need to be 15 years old or older by October 1.
