Come join RAPRD at our third Aviation Day event! This event is growing fast and we need your help. There will be tons of things for kids to do, like explore a fire truck, a helicopter, and fly some drones but don’t worry, as a volunteer you don’t need to have any special aviation skills!
Home Depot donates some of their Kids Build workshop kits for our arts and crafts table and although parents will do most of the supervising and assisting, we do need some other helping hands to keep things neat and organized, make sure kids only take one kit each, help replenish supplies when they get low, etc. You will throw out packaging and used paintbrushes and dig out more paint and kits and tools as needed, give each other breaks when possible, and interact in a friendly way with kids and parents to help make Aviation Day a memorable, enjoyable hands-on experience.
If drones are more to your liking, we will have volunteer opportunities in the “Drone ER” as well. Our drone volunteers will help charge batteries and replace propellers that pop off (you just pop a new one back on) to keep our little fleet flying for the whole event. We will need folks to help keep the waiting list going, get kids’ names on it and call them when it is their turn, make sure kids don’t jump the line, and help kids whose drones have a more serious issue find their way to one of the Drone Educators staffing the event. Drone volunteers just do their best to make order from chaos and keep the drones in the air – no small feat when the pilots are as young as 4!
If you don’t want to volunteer during the event but could help us set up or break down, we would be so grateful for another pair or two of hands before and after as well. You don’t have to be strong or tall – we aren’t! – just kind and not exhausted!
Thank you so much for considering helping us out for an hour or two. If you can stay the whole event that would be amazing but any amount of help is a gift. Please contact margaret.maffai@gmail.com to let us know your availability for volunteering and what kinds of activities you’d like to help out with.
