Who We Are
The Friends of the Crook County Library is a 501(c)(3) non-profit membership corporation, established in 1997. The goal of the organization is to enhance the programs, services, and materials of the Crook County Library and promote literacy through public awareness, cultural programs, and private funding. The Friends members are a group of dedicated volunteers who support the library. They share a love of books and learning, value the library as a place of knowledge and inspiration, and cherish the library as a vital community source. Our mission is: “To promote the value of a publicly supported library in our community.”

What We Do
Our members support the mission of the Friends by the payment of annual dues. These dues, along with revenue from book sales and bequests, support library programming and supplement county funding, allowing for special services and programs that might not otherwise be possible. Book sales are made possible by the generous donation of books by private individuals, businesses, Crook County Library, and other libraries. Revenue from these endeavors has been used to support programs such as the Summer Reading Program and the Saunders Lecture Series as well as augment library facilities. The volunteer board of directors for Friends manages the business and finances of Friends, plans and coordinates book sales, oversees the operation of Chapters and Friends Bookstores in the library, and leads the sorting and storage of book donations. The Friends board of directors and members meet on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 2:00 PM at the library. The board coordinates the efforts of a large group of dedicated volunteers who carry out regular book sales at the library, staff Chapters Bookstore, help maintain Friends bookstore in the library, sort and organize books, and create graphics and materials for book sales and other Friends efforts.
