Who We Are

In 4-H, we believe in the power of young people. We see that every child has valuable strengths and real influence to improve the world around us. We are America’s largest youth development organization—empowering nearly six million young people across the U.S. with the skills to lead for a lifetime.

What We Do

Every 4-H member selects at least one project that they choose to study, make, raise or do, alongside a club with other members doing similar projects. Members choose projects that fit into their families, communities, and their way of life.

Basically, 4-H members "learn by doing." Young people, with guidance from volunteer leaders, learn essential life and technical skills and how to live with people and serve their community and country by practicing these skills in real-life situations.

We are always looking for club leaders to volunteer their time to a group of young people, helping them work towards a goal. After a background check, the club can be run in a way that works for you: weekly or monthly, at your home or a public meeting space. Typically the club will present something they've done or learned at the Deschutes County Fair in August - local 4-H staff can help you come up with a goal for your club!
