The Shared Future Coalition is dedicated to preventing underage alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana use in Deschutes County. Your perspective on our community, your leadership, and your expertise are needed to strengthen substance misuse prevention efforts in our community.
The Shared Future Coalition has an 18-member Advisory Board guided by Public Health professionals from Deschutes County Health Services. It is made up of representatives from at least 12 different sectors of the community: parents, youth, schools, health care, law enforcement, media/communications, religious/fraternal organizations, youth-serving organizations, government, businesses, other prevention, and civic/volunteer groups. The Coalition operates as a collaborative team, leveraging knowledge, resources, and opportunities throughout the community to reduce adolescent and young adult alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, and prescription drug misuse/abuse. Your unique history, skills, and insights about our community are vital to strategic planning for prevention projects and initiatives.

Current Advisory Board or committee openings:
- Media/communications representative
- Religious/Fraternal or other faith-based organization representative
- Youth-serving organization representative
- Civic or volunteer organization representative
- At large member - does not need to be from an identified sector
Advisory Board meetings are a blend of topics necessary to steward prevention projects and initiatives: assessment, capacity building, strategic planning, implementation, evaluation, sustainability, and cultural responsiveness. Training about prevention science and best practices is provided through meeting design, webinars, and in-person events. No previous experience with alcohol/drug misuse prevention is required.
Qualifications:
- Attend quarterly meetings (2 hour commitment per quarter total)
- Participate in at least one project (approximately 1 hour per month) project examples
- Agree in principle and practice with the Shared Future Coalition’s stated Core Values (which can be found on our website: https://www.sharedfuturecoalition.org/)
Alcohol and drug prevention coalitions are present in almost every county in Oregon, as well as across the nation. Community members, like you are making a positive impact by leaning into their roles as change-makers. Together, we can make a difference!
